Ubisoft quietly launches a new NFT game: Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E.
Ubisoft's latest venture into the NFT gaming space, Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E., requires players to purchase an NFT to participate. This news, initially reported by Eurogamer on December 20th, reveals a top-down multiplayer arcade shooter with a unique twist.
Expanding on the universe of the Netflix series, Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix, the game integrates familiar Ubisoft IPs like Watch Dogs and Assassin's Creed. Access is limited to 10,000 players, each requiring a Citizen ID Card purchased via cryptocurrency. This NFT card tracks player achievements and rankings, evolving based on in-game performance.
The Citizen ID Card, a Niji Warrior ID, costs $25.63 and is acquired through Ubisoft's claim page. Players can even resell their IDs, potentially increasing their value with improved in-game standings. The official launch is slated for Q1 2025, with early access for those who secure their IDs early. Ubisoft's Magic Eden page provides further details.
The game's storyline, set within the same universe as the Netflix series (itself a spin-off of Far Cry 3's Blood Dragon DLC), remains undisclosed. However, players will act as citizens under Eden's rule, influencing the narrative through mission completion, leaderboard rankings, and community engagement. The series depicts Dolph Laserhawk, a supersoldier, and his complex relationship with his former partner, Alex Taylor, set in a 1992 dystopian America controlled by a megacorporation.
