This month marks the 20th anniversary of the release of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, the final installment in the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy. The film premiered on May 19, 2005, and it was the last Star Wars movie overseen by George Lucas before he sold Lucasfilm to Disney in 2012.
Fans eagerly anticipated Revenge of the Sith because it promised to show Anakin Skywalker's transformation into Darth Vader. A key plot point was what would happen to the other Jedi. The film introduced Order 66, a sinister directive from Palpatine that turned the Clone Troopers against the Jedi they had fought alongside during the Clone Wars, leading to the execution of many Jedi. Despite the thousands of Jedi in service, it was logical to assume some would escape Palpatine's purge, not just the few essential to the Original Trilogy's storyline.
In the canon Star Wars universe, several dozen Jedi have been identified as survivors of Order 66. We've ranked the top 10 who have had a significant impact. Some survived only briefly, while others lived much longer, and a few have an unknown fate. All of these Jedi lived to fight another day after Palpatine's command to "Execute Order 66."
Our criteria for this list include characters who were part of the Jedi Order before Order 66, whether as Padawans, Jedi Knights, Jedi Masters, or even young Jedi Initiates. This excludes non-Jedi Force-users like Maul and Palpatine, as well as young Force-sensitive individuals like Jod Na Nawood, who never officially joined the Jedi Order.
There was some debate about including Asajj Ventress, who trained under Jedi Ky Narec on Rattatak for over 20 years. Despite this training, she never visited Coruscant or met the Jedi Council, and her later allegiance to the Dark Side as Dooku's apprentice complicates her status. Therefore, we've designated her as an honorable mention.
