Players Struggle Against Ornithopters in Dune: Awakening PvP

Author : Matthew Aug 05,2026

Dune: Awakening developer Funcom has acknowledged an issue with Ornithopters in PvP and confirmed a fix is coming for players frustrated by getting crushed by these helicopter-like vehicles.

As demonstrated by Reddit user Bombe18 in the video below, players currently have no counterplay when targeted by an Ornithopter - the aircraft can repeatedly eliminate players during self-revive sequences. This problematic mechanic leaves victims helpless unless they happen to be carrying a missile launcher.

Dune developers, I accept losing in PvP. But being crushed by an unkillable Ornithopter? That's unacceptable.

But being crushed by an Orni that takes no damage? That's unacceptable." The Redditor proposed two potential solutions: either make Ornithopters take collision damage when crushing players or disable the crushing mechanic entirely.

Funcom responded quickly to these community concerns. "Apologies for this issue," stated Joel Bylos, Funcom's Chief Creative Officer. "Our team is working on a quick solution for this 'goomba stomping' problem."

Current gameplay mechanics make all vehicles functionally invulnerable, raising concerns that fixing just the Ornithopters might simply shift the PvP meta to other problematic vehicles. Players hope for a comprehensive solution addressing all vehicle exploits.

Despite this PvP balance issue, Dune: Awakening has achieved an impressive launch, earning a 'Very Positive' rating on Steam. The survival MMO attracted over 142,000 concurrent players shortly after its June 10 release, with numbers expected to climb over the weekend.
