Hazelight Games announced that their latest co-op adventure, Split Fiction, is continuing its stellar launch, having sold 2 million copies within just one week of its release. Launched on March 6 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, the game featuring dual protagonists has quickly solidified its place as a major success for the studio. Hazelight expressed their astonishment and gratitude on social media, stating they are "blown away" by the overwhelming support from both new and returning fans.
Just 48 hours after its initial launch, Split Fiction had already captivated 1 million players with the sci-fi tale of Mio and Zoe. Remarkably, an additional million copies were sold in the mere five days following that milestone.
As a cooperative game, Split Fiction likely boasts a significantly higher player count than its sales figures suggest, thanks to its innovative Friend’s Pass feature. This allows one player to buy the game and invite a friend to play for free, amplifying its reach and engagement within the gaming community. With the buzz surrounding the game on social media, the 2 million sales figure is expected to grow even further.
Hazelight's previous hit, 2021 Game of the Year winner It Takes Two, followed a similar trajectory. It sold approximately 1 million copies shortly after its launch in March 2021, eventually reaching 10 million copies by February 2023, and an impressive 20 million by October 2024.
In IGN's review of Split Fiction, the game was praised as “an expertly crafted co-op adventure that pinballs from one genre extreme to another,” highlighting its dynamic and engaging gameplay experience.
