On April 9, Sega took to Twitter (X) to announce that Sonic Rumble will hit the global market on May 8, 2025. Accompanying this exciting news was the release of a new trailer showcasing dynamic gameplay footage.Sonic Rumble marks the franchise's first foray into a multiplayer party game, allowing up to 32 players to compete in diverse levels and challenges. Sega describes the game as, "Players control a character from the Sonic series as they navigate a toy world crafted by the nefarious Dr. Eggman, tackling treacherous obstacle courses and hazardous arenas!"
As a free-to-play title, concerns about pay-to-win mechanics have surfaced. However, Sonic Rumble Director Makoto Tase addressed these concerns during an interview with Automaton at the Tokyo Game Show 2024 in September 2024. He stated, "Our goal is to implement a casual system where players can quickly purchase desired items for a small, fixed fee, steering clear of gacha systems that offer items based on chance."
