Skyblivion: Oblivion Remake in Skyrim's Engine Aims for Release This Year

Author : Max May 05,2025

Skyblivion, the ambitious fan-made remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion utilizing the engine of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, is set to launch in 2025. In a recent developer update stream, the dedicated team of volunteer developers reaffirmed their commitment to this target date. Skyblivion represents a monumental effort in the world of modding, akin to a AAA-scale project, and has consumed years of the creators' time and passion.

The team expressed optimism about meeting or even surpassing their 2025 goal, stating, "We hope with your support to finish the final steps in completing our dream, maybe even beating our own estimation." This update not only confirmed the release timeline but also showcased the extensive work already completed on the project.

Describing Skyblivion as merely a one-to-one remake might not do justice to the extensive enhancements being made. The developers are not only recreating the game within Skyrim's engine but also overhauling various aspects of the original Elder Scrolls title. This includes ensuring that unique items truly stand out and enhancing existing bosses to meet their legendary status, with special attention to characters like Mannimarco. The team also highlighted the "A Brush with Death" quest during their livestream, demonstrating the stunning visual upgrades to the painted world.

Adding an intriguing layer to Skyblivion's development is the buzz around an official Oblivion remake. Earlier this year, rumors emerged about potential changes to combat and other elements in an Oblivion remake, though Microsoft declined to comment when approached by IGN. Moreover, in 2023, an Oblivion remaster was inadvertently mentioned in documents from the Activision Blizzard/FTC trial, alongside other projects like an Indiana Jones game (which has since been released) and a Fallout 3 remaster (yet to be confirmed).

Given Bethesda's history of supporting modding communities across their titles, from older games to the recent Starfield, there's hope that Skyblivion will navigate smoothly to its 2025 release. However, the looming possibility of an official Oblivion relaunch raises questions about potential impacts on this fan-made project. The hope is that Skyblivion will avoid the challenges faced by projects like Fallout London and successfully launch as planned.
