Silksong Is Real And Will Release, Reassures PR Manager
Hollow Knight: Silksong is still in active development, confirms Matthew Griffin, Marketing and PR Manager at Team Cherry. After years of silence and mounting speculation, fans finally have official reassurance that the long-awaited sequel is not only real but steadily progressing toward release. Dive into the latest details and what we know so far.

This Is Not A Joke — Silksong Is Real

Officially Confirmed by Team Cherry’s Griffin

In a recent response on X (formerly Twitter), Matthew "Leth" Griffin addressed growing community concern, confirming that Hollow Knight: Silksong remains in development and will eventually launch. His message came in reply to a fan’s heartfelt plea for confirmation—seeking just a glimmer of hope that the sequel is still on track.

The spark for recent rumors began when Hollow Knight co-creator William Pellen changed his X profile picture to an image of a cake. Fans quickly interpreted this as a cryptic hint—possibly tied to an ARG or an upcoming announcement, perhaps even a reveal for the Nintendo Switch 2. However, content creator fireb0rn reached out directly to Griffin for clarification, who confirmed the change was entirely unrelated. "Apologies to have misled everyone. The cake was a lie," fireb0rn later tweeted, referencing the now-infamous Portal meme.

Despite the anticlimactic truth behind the profile picture, Griffin used the moment to reaffirm that Silksong is very much alive. “Yes, the game is real, progressing, and will release,” he stated—marking the first official update from Team Cherry in over a year and a half.

Six Years in the Making — A Timeline of Anticipation

Silksong Is Real And Will Release, Reassures PR Manager

Originally announced in February 2019, Hollow Knight: Silksong was initially expected to launch in the first half of 2023. However, in May 2023, Team Cherry announced a delay, explaining that the game had "gotten quite big" and required additional time to meet their high standards. Since then, the team has maintained near-total silence—until now.

The upcoming title will follow Hornet, the princess-protector of Hallownest, as she journeys into a new, uncharted kingdom filled with peril and mystery. The game promises nearly 150 new enemies, an expanded combat system, and a challenging new mode called Silk Soul, designed for veteran players seeking an even greater test of skill.

Though nearly two years have passed since the official delay, this brief update serves as a crucial reassurance to the dedicated fanbase. While no release window has been shared, the confirmation that development is ongoing has reignited hope across the community.

Reactions have been mixed. Many fans expressed gratitude for the update, praising Team Cherry for prioritizing quality over rushed deadlines and urging them to stay focused without succumbing to external pressure. Others, however, voiced frustration after nearly six years of waiting, calling the update minimal and craving more tangible news—such as a trailer, gameplay footage, or a concrete release date.

Hollow Knight: Silksong is set to launch on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. As Hornet embarks on her deadly pilgrimage to the peak of a foreign kingdom, players can expect the same atmospheric depth, intricate design, and soul-stirring challenge that defined the original.

Stay tuned for future updates—until then, the wait continues, but at least now, we know it’s not in vain.
