Shrek 5 has just unveiled its all-new cast and a brand-new teaser trailer, leaving even Movie Sonic puzzled by Shrek's fresh appearance. In a humorous TikTok video, the Sonic Movie account offered "advice for green ogres," showcasing Sonic's own transformation from his initial, controversial live-action design to the much-improved version released later on.

IGN had the exclusive first look at the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie back in 2018, and the feedback was mixed, to say the least. Fans were particularly vocal about Sonic's teeth, physique, tiny eyes, and oddly human-like fingers. Responding to the backlash, director Jeff Fowler decided to revise the design, promising a more authentic representation. The revamped look was much better received.
Although the feedback on Shrek's new look hasn't been as divisive as Sonic's initial live-action debut, Sonic's playful response has delighted fans. "You know it's bad when you see the Sonic Movie account giving Shrek 5 advice," one commenter noted, while another exclaimed, "No way they actually posted this" accompanied by a crying emoji.
The fifth installment of the Shrek franchise was first announced in 2016, but it remained quiet for years until Chris Meledandri, CEO of Illumination, confirmed its active development in 2023, alongside plans for a Donkey spin-off. Universal Pictures has delayed Shrek 5's release to December 23, 2026, shifting it from its original slot to make way for the Despicable Me 3 spin-off, Minions 3.
