"PSA: Days Gone Remastered $10 PS5 Upgrade Unavailable for PS Plus Game Redemptions"

During Sony's recent State of Play showcase, the announcement of Days Gone Remastered caught the attention of many, but it has left some PlayStation Plus subscribers feeling frustrated due to its $10 upgrade policy. Sony has clarified that the $10 upgrade to the remastered version on PlayStation 5 is exclusively available to those who own the PlayStation 4 disc or a digital copy of Days Gone. Unfortunately, this means that players who obtained the game through the PS Plus subscription service, including those who redeemed it from the now-defunct PS Plus Collection or as an Essential monthly game in April 2021, are not eligible for the discounted upgrade. Instead, they must pay the full $49.99 to access the PS5 remastered version.

This decision has sparked a wave of discontent among PS Plus subscribers, many of whom have taken to online forums to voice their dissatisfaction. A notable thread on the PlayStation Plus subreddit is filled with comments from subscribers who express their willingness to pay the $10 upgrade fee but are now opting to forego the game entirely due to the full price requirement. Users like squarejellyfish_ have pointed out that Sony could have potentially earned a significant amount if PS Plus players were allowed to upgrade, as many would have been willing to pay $10 to try out the remastered version for a short period.

Other subscribers, such as teckn9ne79 and dredizzle99, have echoed similar sentiments, stating they would have gladly paid for the upgrade but are unwilling to purchase the game at full price. Jackanyon95 criticized the decision as "awkward," arguing that Sony is missing out on additional revenue by excluding a large portion of the game's owner base who received it for free through PS Plus.

While some PS Plus subscribers are not surprised by Sony's approach, believing the company made a calculated financial decision, others have labeled Sony as "stingy." These fans had hoped for a more generous policy from PlayStation, especially given the game's previous availability through their subscription service.

It's important to note that Days Gone Remastered was not the only highlight from the State of Play event. For a comprehensive overview of all the announcements, be sure to check out IGN's State of Play February 2025 roundup.
