Europa Universalis 5 has officially been unveiled by Paradox Interactive, following a cryptic teaser shared just days ago. The renowned developer behind beloved titles such as Cities: Skylines, Crusader Kings, and Stellaris has released a dramatic cinematic trailer offering a first glimpse into its next grand strategy masterpiece.
The game is being developed by Paradox Tinto, the studio based in Barcelona, Spain, which has played a key role in supporting Europa Universalis 4 over recent years. While no official release date has been announced yet, fans can already visit the Europa Universalis 5 Steam page for more information.
“Test your strategic mind across 500 years of global history in Europa Universalis 5, the newest installment in the iconic grand strategy series,” reads an official description from Paradox. “Navigate the complexities of warfare, trade, diplomacy, and governance in what promises to be the most expansive and intricate Europa Universalis experience yet. Shape the fate of hundreds of nations and civilizations within a living world brimming with depth and realism.”
This ambitious title has been in development at Paradox Tinto for over five years, crafted specifically with the passionate Paradox community in mind. According to the team, it has drawn heavily from more than a year of public feedback and open discussions—making this one of the most community-informed releases in the franchise’s history.
Set against the backdrop of pivotal historical events, Europa Universalis 5 begins its campaign at the outbreak of the Hundred Years’ War in 1337. As players guide their chosen nation through centuries of transformation, they’ll encounter a wealth of new features designed to enhance immersion and gameplay depth.
Among the highlights revealed today is a newly expanded map built using accurate cartographic projections, featuring hundreds of distinct societies. For the first time, the game introduces a population-based system, alongside refined production and trade mechanics. Players will now build their economies by developing farms, plantations, and factories or engaging in complex trade networks with neighboring regions.
All of these innovations aim to deliver a deeply customizable strategy experience, empowering players to shape their nation's destiny in ways never before possible. Though last week’s tease described the project only as mysterious and “ambitious,” the Paradox fanbase had already speculated accurately on much of what was coming.
