"Nintendo Reveals Pricey Upgrades for Switch 2 Games"

Author : Christian Apr 27,2025

Nintendo has recently disclosed the costs for upgrading two popular Switch games to their Nintendo Switch 2 Editions: Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree. The price for these upgrades is significantly higher than expected.

While upgrading The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom from their original Switch versions to the Switch 2 Edition costs $9.99 each, NintendoLife has noted that the upgrades for Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree are more than double that price.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Edition of Breath of the Wild offers improved visuals and performance, achievements, and integrates with the new "Zelda Notes" service in the Nintendo Switch Online app. Owners of the original Breath of the Wild on the Switch can purchase an "upgrade pack" for $10 to enjoy these enhancements.

The Switch 2 Edition of Kirby and the Forgotten Land includes new story content titled "Star-Crossed World." Meanwhile, Super Mario Party Jamboree’s Switch 2 Edition introduces "Jamboree TV," a new content suite that utilizes the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, Switch 2 microphone, and the Switch 2 USB-C camera, which is sold separately. This edition also features upgraded resolution up to 1440p in TV mode, improved frame rate, new minigames, and enhanced online functions.

Although U.S. prices on the American Nintendo eShop are not yet available—potentially due to uncertainties related to President Trump's tariffs—the UK Nintendo eShop lists the Kirby and the Forgotten Land upgrade pack at £16.99 / €19.99, over twice the £7.99 / €9.99 charged for upgrading either Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom.

The Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV upgrade is priced similarly, suggesting a U.S. price of $19.99. This higher upgrade cost may be influenced by the $80 price tag of both Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World and Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV, compared to their original Switch versions, which are priced at $59.99 each.

For those not upgrading, here are the U.S. prices for the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games:

  • Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World - $79.99
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $69.99
  • Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV - $79.99
  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $79.99

It's worth noting that the upgrade packs for both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are available at no extra cost to Nintendo Switch Online and Expansion Pack subscribers. However, no such offer currently exists for those looking to upgrade Kirby or Super Mario Party Jamboree.

Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders began today, April 24, with the console priced at $449.99. Pre-orders have been extremely popular, leading Nintendo to warn U.S. customers who pre-ordered via the My Nintendo Store that they may not receive their console on the release date due to high demand.
