Netflix Is Launching Its First MMO Spirit Crossing Later This Year

Netflix is venturing into the world of MMOs with their latest announcement at GDC 2025: Spirit Crossing. Developed by Spry Fox, the creators of beloved titles like Cozy Grove and Cozy Grove: Camp Spirit, this new game promises to deliver the same warm, pastel visuals, soothing music, and a focus on fostering connections rather than competition.

Here’s What We Know About Netflix Spirit Crossing

In Spirit Crossing, players will have the opportunity to explore a vast world, build and decorate homes, and cultivate a thriving village alongside others. The gameplay includes gathering resources, riding on adorable fluffy creatures, joining dance parties, and simply enjoying the company of friends.

The visual style of Spirit Crossing draws inspiration from Studio Ghibli, French comics, and even incorporates elements of modern art like Corporate Memphis. The aim is to create a timeless and inviting atmosphere where players feel at home and want to stay for years.

A unique feature of the game is its in-game calendar system, which influences progression. For instance, trees you plant will take three to six real-world months to mature into a harvestable orchard. This slow-paced, long-term design echoes Spry Fox's approach in Cozy Grove.

At the heart of Spirit Crossing is the emphasis on building meaningful connections, a core element of Spry Fox's design philosophy. Studio co-founder David Edery has expressed his vision for the game to be a space that transforms strangers into friends.

Netflix has released a trailer for Spirit Crossing, showcasing its charming and captivating world. You can watch it below to get a glimpse of what's in store.

Sign Up for the Closed Alpha

Currently, Netflix and Spry Fox are inviting players to participate in a closed alpha test for Spirit Crossing. If you're eager to experience the game early, you can sign up on the official closed alpha test page.

Spirit Crossing is set to launch later this year. In the meantime, don't miss out on our next feature about The Great Sneeze, which turns classic art into a playful puzzle adventure, available now.
