Microsoft's Sea of Thieves Collaborates With Sony's Destiny 2 For a New Crossover

Author : Lucy Apr 14,2025

In an exciting crossover event, a Sony property is making waves in a Microsoft game. Sea of Thieves, the beloved pirate-themed adventure from Microsoft, has introduced new cosmetics inspired by the world of Destiny 2. Players can now bring the epic battle against the Darkness to the high seas with the Lightbearer cosmetics set, featuring an array of items like new flags, ship cosmetics, and a costume set that pay homage to the Destiny universe. The trailer for this new set showcases various nods to Destiny, including the Drifter's iconic outfit and a ghost hanging off the front of a ship. The Pirate Emporium is stocked with a wealth of Destiny-themed options, allowing players to fully customize their ships and sailors.

Sea of Thieves made a splash on PlayStation last year, marking it as one of several Microsoft titles to cross over to Sony's console. Meanwhile, Destiny, developed by Bungie and now under Sony's ownership, has remained a staple on Xbox. This crossover might blur traditional console boundaries, but it's a delightful fusion that fits perfectly within Sea of Thieves' world, especially with the Drifter's outfit complementing the pirate aesthetic.

With the launch of Season 15, Sea of Thieves continues to expand its horizons with new encounters, voyages, and content, keeping the piracy experience fresh and engaging. Rare's game has not only stayed afloat but thrived, even achieving top spots on EU sales charts upon its PlayStation 5 debut.

On the other side, Destiny 2 has released the Heresy expansion and is navigating its path forward after the monumental narrative closure in The Final Shape. The game has also seen its share of crossovers, most notably with Star Wars, highlighting its ongoing appeal and adaptability.

Both Sea of Thieves and Destiny 2 have successfully navigated the turbulent waters of live-service game development, making this crossover a testament to their enduring popularity. The new Destiny-themed cosmetics are now available in Sea of Thieves, and while it's unclear if Destiny 2 will receive any pirate-themed content, the idea of a giant pirate ship sailing through space certainly sparks the imagination.
