Marvel Rivals Reverses Controversial Mid-Season Rank Reset

Following significant player backlash, Marvel Rivals has reversed its decision to implement mid-season rank resets. The developer announced the change in Dev Talk 11, a swift response to the negative reception of Dev Talk 10, which detailed plans for a four-division rank drop halfway through the season.

Marvel Rivals Rank Reset Reversal

Players had voiced concerns that the frequent resets (proposed every 45 days) were demoralizing and counterproductive to climbing the ranks. Marvel Rivals listened, and the mid-season reset is now cancelled. Players will retain their existing ranks and scores from the first half of the season. End-of-season resets, however, will still occur, resulting in a six-division drop.

New Heroes and Continued Updates

Despite the rank reset reversal, other updates remain on track. The highly anticipated additions of Human Torch and The Thing, bringing the total roster to 39 heroes, are still scheduled for release. This aligns with NetEase Games' previous commitment to two new characters per three-month season.

Reward structures for high-ranking players also remain unchanged. Players who achieve Gold rank or higher will receive a free Invisible Woman costume, while Grandmaster and above will receive Crests of Honor. Additional rewards, including another free costume, will be awarded for achieving Gold rank at the season's end. Crests of Honor will also be given to Grandmaster and above players at the season's end. Balance adjustments are also planned, though specifics are yet to be revealed.

Community Response and Developer Acknowledgement

The rapid reversal of the mid-season reset highlights Marvel Rivals' responsiveness to community feedback. The developer directly addressed player concerns within hours of the initial announcement, demonstrating a commitment to player engagement.

Marvel Rivals Community Feedback

Marvel Rivals emphasized their dedication to creating the best possible game experience, stating that the community is a key driver in their development process. The mid-season update is now scheduled for February 21, 2025. Marvel Rivals is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Stay tuned for further updates on our Marvel Rivals page.
