Let the demon hunting begin. Netflix has announced an anime adaptation of the beloved video game series Devil May Cry, and fans are in for a treat with a newly released trailer. Adding to the excitement, the legendary late voice actor Kevin Conroy will posthumously star in the series, lending his voice to the character VP Baines, who can be heard in the trailer's opening.
Conroy, renowned for his iconic portrayal of Bruce Wayne and Batman in numerous animated projects, received acclaim for his work in Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part 3, released in July 2024. Fans will have another opportunity to appreciate his talent following his passing in November 2022 at the age of 66. The cast also includes Scout Taylor-Compton as Mary, Hoon Lee as White Rabbit, Chris Coppola as Enzo, and Johnny Yong Bosch voicing the lead character, Dante.
The official synopsis from Netflix reveals, "Sinister forces are at play to open the portal between the human and demon realms. In the middle of it all is Dante, an orphaned demon-hunter-for-hire, unaware that the fate of both worlds hangs around his neck."
Adi Shankar, known for his work on films such as the 2012 Judge Dredd reboot, Killing Them Softly, and The Voices, will serve as the showrunner for Devil May Cry. Shankar is also attached to an upcoming Assassin's Creed adaptation, though its release remains uncertain since its announcement in 2017.
The series is being produced by Studio Mir, the South Korean studio celebrated for their work on The Legend of Korra and X-Men '97. Devil May Cry will premiere on Netflix on April 3, 2025.
