Jacksepticeye's Unannounced Soma Animated Show Project Collapses Unexpectedly

Author : Eleanor Apr 09,2025

YouTuber Jacksepticeye, whose real name is Seán William McLoughlin, recently shared a disheartening update in his video titled 'A Bad Month.' He disclosed that he had been working on an animated show based on the critically acclaimed survival horror game, Soma, developed by Frictional Games. The project, which Jacksepticeye was deeply passionate about, ultimately fell through, leaving him "quite upset."

Soma, released in 2015, has been a favorite of Jacksepticeye, who streamed the game extensively and often cites it as one of the best video games he has ever played due to its compelling story. The animated show was in the works for a year, with Jacksepticeye and the developers at Frictional Games discussing the project and preparing to move into full production. However, the project abruptly collapsed when an unnamed party decided to take the project in a "different direction."

Jacksepticeye expressed his frustration and disappointment over the situation, noting that he had planned his year around the project. The cancellation has left his plans for 2025 in disarray, as he had intended to focus heavily on the show, reducing his usual content uploads in anticipation of sharing the animated series with his audience.

Despite the setback, Jacksepticeye did not delve into the specifics of what went wrong, citing his emotional response to the situation. He mentioned receiving numerous calls and dealing with the fallout over recent weeks, describing the period as "a tough month."

Frictional Games, the creators of Soma, have since released two more titles in the Amnesia series: Amnesia: Rebirth in 2020 and Amnesia: The Bunker in 2023. In July 2023, following the release of Amnesia: The Bunker, Frictional's creative director Thomas Grip indicated a shift in focus away from horror games to explore other emotional qualities in their work. This move aligns with their goal to provide immersive experiences beyond the horror genre.

Jacksepticeye's revelation about the Soma animated show has left fans and followers disappointed, as they were eagerly anticipating the creative project from the beloved YouTuber.
