Helldivers 2's major Heart of Democracy update has arrived, bringing the war to Super Earth for the first time. Available now on PC and PlayStation 5, this expansion sees the Illuminate invasion reach humanity's homeworld, with new Mega City battlefields where players fight alongside SEAF troops.
Defending the Homeland
Players can now select urban combat missions across Super Earth's besieged cities, which developer Arrowhead describes as having "strategic importance for planetary campaigns." These new city biomes are integrated into Helldivers 2's evolving Galactic War meta-narrative, where community actions shape the unfolding conflict.
The Illuminate have reached the Heart of Democracy. Our Mega Cities are under siege. Liberty now hangs in the balance. The Ministry of Defence has authorised arsenal upgrades and placed SEAF soldiers on active duty. Today, we fight for the future of Super Earth!
As detailed on the PlayStation Blog, the update introduces dynamic city warfare:
Helldivers must repel the Illuminate by securing landing zones where the alien fleet deploys forces. Like an intergalactic tug-of-war, players will constantly battle for control against relentless enemy waves.
New Tactical Possibilities
The update introduces Planetary Defense Cannons that players can activate to bombard invading fleets. SEAF troop squads now patrol city streets, providing AI support that players can command - though divers must still watch for civilian collateral damage during intense urban combat.
Long-Term Commitment
This content drop reinforces Arrowhead's dedication to Helldivers 2 following its record-breaking launch. CEO Shams Jorjani recently reassured players about ongoing support:
"It's ALL Helldivers 2 for now. A very small team will begin work on another project later this year, but our main focus remains Helldivers for the foreseeable future."
Jorjani credited player engagement and Super Credits purchases for enabling long-term development: "Last summer we faced challenges, but player support helped us turn things around. As long as the community stays engaged, we'll keep delivering content."
The update expands Helldivers 2's war-torn universe while demonstrating Arrowhead's commitment to evolving the live-service shooter.
