First launching in February 2017 on mobile, Linux, macOS, and Windows, Hidden Folks soon stood out in the hidden object genre. Its appeal lies in puzzles that are more engaging than standard picture hunts.
Created by Adriaan de Jongh and Sylvain Tegroeg, the game draws inspiration from wimmelbilderbuchs—large, wordless picture books filled with hidden details. Its entirely hand-drawn art style brings each location to life like a living storybook.
The game includes 32 unique hand-illustrated areas, all rendered in a distinctive monochrome ink style. Each zone has its own theme, ranging from tranquil forests teeming with wildlife to bustling campgrounds.
Players can interact with over 500 elements in every scene. Tap a crocodile to see it snap its jaws, or prod a bush to uncover birds, hidden campers, or a startled snake.
Beyond its visuals, the game's audio design has also received acclaim. It boasts more than 2,000 vocal sound effects, each flap, rustle, crunch, and roar personally performed by creator Adriaan de Jongh.
