NPIXEL has officially announced the closure of Gran Saga, marking the end of its brief international journey. The service will cease operations on April 30th, 2025, with in-app purchases (IAPs) and downloads already disabled.
Gran Saga, which enjoyed a successful launch in Japan back in 2021, made its global debut in November 2024. Unfortunately, the game only managed to last six months before the decision to shut down was made.
The primary reason for the closure appears to be financial instability and the inability to sustain the service. Despite its initial promise, Gran Saga failed to secure a significant presence in the intensely competitive global market.
The genre is dominated by well-established games with loyal fanbases, making it extremely challenging for newcomers to succeed without offering something truly innovative. While the game found success in Japan, it couldn't replicate that momentum on the international stage, resulting in an early closure.
This closure adds to the growing list of gacha RPGs that have shut down recently. Just last month, I reported on the closure of My Hero Academia: The Strongest Hero, among others. The market is oversaturated, and players tend to stick with familiar titles, making it difficult for new or niche games to survive in the long run.
For those who have made recent purchases and are seeking refunds, you have until May 30th to submit your inquiry. Please note that refunds may not be possible if the items have already been used or due to other store policies.
If you were among those who explored the world of Ethprozen, this farewell is undoubtedly tough, but it's a trend that's becoming increasingly common in the mobile gaming industry.
