Game Informer Returns: Neill Blomkamp's Studio Revives Beloved Magazine

Author : Sarah May 03,2025

Exciting news for gaming enthusiasts: Game Informer has made a triumphant return just over six months after its closure by GameStop in August 2024. The entire team is back in action, thanks to Gunzilla Games, which has acquired the rights to the iconic gaming publication. In a heartfelt 'Letter From the Editor,' Game Informer's Editor-In-Chief Matt Miller shared the thrilling details of this revival.

Gunzilla Games, known for their innovative work on the free-to-play extraction battle royale game Off the Grid, now in Early Access, and the blockchain ecosystem GunZ, has ensured Game Informer's return to the gaming world. Not only have they brought back the editorial team, but they are also committed to supporting the entire production process. Notably, Neill Blomkamp, renowned director of films like District 9 and Chappie, serves as Gunzilla's chief creative officer and co-founder, adding a unique creative edge to the team.

Game Informer is back! The entire team is returning and we can't wait to reconnect. Come join us to celebrate the best in games, the people who make games, and the people who play games from around the world.

Miller emphasized that Gunzilla Games is dedicated to maintaining Game Informer as an independent editorial outlet. They believe, as strongly as the Game Informer team does, that the publication should retain full autonomy over its content and coverage. To reflect this new chapter, Game Informer is now operating under a new entity, Game Informer Inc., ensuring that its over 30-year legacy continues without interruption.

The team has been busy during their hiatus, preparing "dozens" of new reviews for games released during their absence and compiling their Best of 2024 awards. Additionally, fans of the print magazine can look forward to its return, which Miller promises will be "bigger and better than it was before." In the coming weeks, Game Informer plans to introduce membership and subscription benefits, expand their video, streaming, and feature coverage, and broaden the range of experts and partnerships to bring diverse perspectives to their audience.

For those eager to dive back into the world of Game Informer, creating a new account offers early benefits such as access to the Game Informer Magazine Archive, an exclusive weekly newsletter, Dark Mode, and Early-Bird Founder Access.
