Pocket Gamer recently discovered Dynabytes' Fantasma at Gamescom Latam – a multiplayer augmented reality (AR) GPS adventure game. This exciting title recently received a significant update adding Japanese, Korean, Malay, and Portuguese language support, perfectly timed with the Brazilian location of the gaming convention. Further expansion is planned, with German, Italian, and Spanish language options expected in the coming months.
But what exactly is Fantasma? Players hunt and battle mischievous creatures that plague the world, using portable electromagnetic fields as bait instead of traditional lures. Combat takes place in augmented reality, requiring players to maneuver their phones to keep the Fantasmas in view while tapping the screen to attack. Defeated Fantasmas are then captured in special bottles.
The Fantasmas encountered are location-based, encouraging exploration. Players can deploy sensors to expand their detection radius and attract creatures from further afield. Cooperative gameplay is also supported, allowing players to team up for a more social experience.
Fantasma is free-to-play (with in-app purchases) and available now on the App Store and Google Play. Download links are provided below. For fans of the AR genre, be sure to check out our list of the best AR games for iOS.
