Elden Ring Live-Action Film Adaptation Officially in Development
Visionary Director Alex Garland Onboard
The Elden Ring live-action movie is now confirmed to be in active development, following an official announcement from Bandai Namco Entertainment and A24.
Acclaimed filmmaker Alex Garland, known for directing Ex Machina, Civil War, and Warfare, will lead the creative direction of the film. The project aims to “bring the epic world and intense action” of the game to life on the big screen.
The production team includes Peter Rice, Andrew Macdonald, and Allon Reich from DNA Films, alongside celebrated author George R. R. Martin—creator of A Song of Ice and Fire—and former Game of Thrones co-executive producer Vince Gerardis. It remains unclear whether FromSoftware’s president and Elden Ring director, Hidetaka Miyazaki, will be involved in the movie's development.
Additional details including the storyline, cast, and release window have yet to be disclosed. Fans are eagerly waiting for future updates that may arrive sooner than expected.
Elden Ring Expands Across 2025
Although the live-action movie isn't scheduled for release just yet, the Elden Ring franchise continues to thrive with major new releases planned for 2025.
Originally launched in 2022, the flagship title Elden Ring quickly became a global phenomenon. It surpassed 13.4 million sales within its first five weeks and has since reached an impressive 30 million copies sold worldwide as of April 2025, according to the official Elden Ring X (Twitter) account. The game also holds the record for receiving over 324 Game of the Year awards across numerous platforms and ceremonies.
Its 2024 expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, was met with widespread acclaim and built upon the foundation of the original experience.
In 2025, FromSoftware is set to expand the universe even further with two exciting new titles:
First, Elden Ring: Nightreign arrives as a cooperative multiplayer action game set in the realm of Limveld. Players take on the role of Nightfarers—elite warriors tasked with halting the rise of the menacing Nightlord. While retaining familiar mechanics from the original Elden Ring, this spinoff introduces fresh gameplay tailored for seamless online co-op. Scheduled for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on May 30th, it promises to be a must-play for fans.
Second, the definitive version of Elden Ring, titled the Tarnished Edition, is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 later this year. This edition bundles the full base game along with the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, plus four exclusive armor sets and enhanced customization options for the three variants of Torrent, the Spectral Steed. Though not a launch title for the next-gen console, it ensures that Elden Ring will reach a wider audience than ever before.
