Dune: Awakening's Sandworms Explained

In Dune: Awakening, sandworms are a powerful, unpredictable force of nature, not a tool under your command. Unlike in Frank Herbert's novels, where characters use thumpers to summon them, this ability is absent from the game.

Sandworms are fully realized NPCs, complete with programmed patrol routes, schedules, and behaviors. You can't summon a worm to attack an enemy base. However, you might attract their attention through actions like moving through the sand or using a thumper, though this isn't guaranteed.

Riding sandworms, a hallmark of Freman culture in the books and films, is also unavailable in Dune: Awakening. The developers attribute this omission to considerations from the Dune film franchise.

Future updates may add more Fremen-related content, possibly including worm-riding. For now, this iconic element remains absent from the game.

Dune: Awakening launches on PC May 20th, with console releases to follow.
