Destiny 2's Prophecy Year: Key Details for Guardians

Author : Amelia May 25,2025

Get ready, Guardian — Bungie has just unveiled an exciting lineup for its sci-fi shooter, Destiny 2, under the banner of the "Year of Prophecy." This year promises four major content updates, including two paid expansions and two significant updates accessible to all players, both free and paying.

Kicking off the Year of Prophecy is "Rite of the Nine," a free update that reimagines dungeon diving for both veterans and newcomers. Available now, this update revisits familiar dungeons like Prophecy, Spire of the Watcher, and Ghosts of the Deep, but with new twists. Players will reconnect with Orin and encounter refreshed dungeon weapons, ensuring even seasoned Guardians find something new and exciting.

Next up, on July 15, comes the paid expansion, "Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate," marking the beginning of a multiyear saga. This expansion reintroduces the enigmatic Nine, ancient beings predating the Traveler. New characters, Lodi and Ikora, will take center stage as players explore the new destination, Kepler. Inspired by Destiny 2’s dungeons, Kepler encourages deep exploration and puzzle-solving, offering new enemies, weapons, gear, and destination-specific abilities.

Simultaneously on July 15, Bungie will roll out "major core game innovations." This includes revamped armor and gear systems for enhanced buildcrafting and a new activity selection screen called the Portal. Players can choose from Fireteam Ops, Pinnacle Ops, Crucible Ops, and the newly introduced Solo Ops, designed for those who prefer short, self-contained gameplay without a fireteam. With 50 new modifiers, players can customize their gameplay and chase specific rewards through curated activity rotations.

As with any new expansion, pre-order bonuses are available. Here’s what you can get:

"Destiny 2: Renegades," inspired by the legendary Star Wars universe, will blend Destiny’s unique storytelling and gameplay with iconic sci-fi elements, promising an exciting addition to the franchise.

This news comes after Bungie laid off 220 staff members in July 2024, following 100 other layoffs less than a year prior, highlighting the company's continued commitment to delivering quality content for Destiny 2 players.

In addition to Destiny 2, Bungie is also working on the reboot of its classic franchise, Marathon, revealed in May 2023. In IGN's Marathon hands-on preview, the game shows promise in satisfying the Bungie PvP itch, set to launch on PC and consoles in September.
