Insider Jez Corden, in the latest episode of the Xbox Two podcast, revealed that fans of the zombie action game State of Decay 3 should temper their expectations for an earlier release. Originally, the developers at Undead Labs had set their sights on a 2025 launch, but according to Corden, the game's release has now been pushed back to early 2026.
Corden noted that despite appearances, the development of State of Decay 3 has made significant strides. However, he refrained from divulging further details on the game's progress. While this news might dampen the spirits of eager fans, it's worth noting that previous rumors had pegged the release for as late as 2027. Thus, a 2026 release, while delayed, remains a more optimistic outlook.
The anticipation for State of Decay 3 was further fueled by a trailer released in June of this year, which showcased intense gunfights with zombies and post-apocalyptic vehicles reminiscent of the Mad Max franchise. The game's narrative is set to unfold many years into the apocalypse, focusing on the struggle of humans to establish secure settlements amidst the relentless undead.
State of Decay 3 is being crafted for both PC and Xbox Series platforms. It serves as a sequel to the game released back in 2018, continuing the saga of survival in a world overrun by zombies.
