Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 features many memorable characters, but none bring as much delight as Esquie—the game's gentle giant companion who has practically become its mascot. While the studio warns against fake merchandise scams, they've also teased an official Esquie plush currently in development.
Beware of Unofficial Esquie Merchandise
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the official Expedition 33 account from Sandfall Interactive cautioned about suspicious websites selling counterfeit Esquie plushies.
"To clarify: Any third-party sites offering Esquie plushies are NOT officially licensed," the studio stated. "Many use AI-generated artwork in their listings, and we strongly advise against purchasing from these sources, as they may be fraudulent."
Balancing optimism with caution—just as Esquie might—Sandfall confirmed they are exploring official plush production and aim to release them soon. "In the meantime, stay patient—and steer clear of scams!" the studio urged.
Players familiar with Expedition 33 will understand why an Esquie plush is highly sought after. For newcomers, Esquie is a massive yet gentle ally introduced in Act 1, serving as both a traveling companion and an overworld transport. His endearing, huggable nature evokes comparisons to Baymax from Big Hero 6.
Given his popularity, it’s no surprise that unofficial merchandise has surfaced. A quick search reveals dubious online stores and discussions questioning the legitimacy of sellers offering Esquie plushies. Those awaiting an authentic version from Sandfall and publisher Kepler Interactive will need to remain patient—though it remains unknown whether the official plush will include his signature wine-filled belly.
Recent Updates & Presidential Praise
Last week, Sandfall Interactive rolled out patch 1.2.3 for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, introducing balance adjustments to Maelle’s Stendhal ability. The game also received high praise from French President Emmanuel Macron, who hailed its developers as "a shining example of French audacity and creativity."
