Borderlands 4 Weapon Manufacturer System Updates
Enhanced Discovery Potential

The Borderlands franchise maintains its reputation for groundbreaking weapon mechanics, with Gearbox introducing significant advancements for Borderlands 4. Executive Producer Chris Brock revealed in a GamesRadar+ interview that while previous entries delivered exceptional weapon systems, Borderlands 4 introduces greater unpredictability and personalization options.
"Our previous weapon implementations succeeded, but Borderlands 4 introduces mechanics that amplify discovery," Brock explained. The game features a new "licensed parts" system that merges manufacturing traits across different weapon makes.
The series' trademark manufacturer system provides distinctive characteristics and mechanics for each brand, enabling players to quickly identify and understand their arsenal in the loot-driven gameplay.

Borderlands 4 debuts three fresh weapon manufacturers: Order, Ripper, and Daedalus. Series staples like Jakobs, Maliwan, Tediore, Torque, and Vladof return, while COV and Hyperion are retired following narrative developments in prior installments.
Gearbox prioritizes weapon system refinement despite previous titles boasting over 1 billion armaments. Senior Project Producer Anthony Nicholson emphasized the studio's commitment during a February 1 interview.
"We're continuously expanding our arsenal with new manufacturers, legendary weapons, and customization options," Nicholson noted. "Borderlands 4 will deliver billions of weapons and attachments for player collection."
Complimentary Hazard Pay Weapon Skin

Tying into its weapons-focused gameplay, Borderlands 4 offers a complimentary weapon skin prior to launch. Gearbox announced via Steam on June 28 that players subscribing to SHiFT notifications will receive the Hazard Pay Weapon Skin.
After enrollment, players must link their SHiFT account with their platform credentials. Upon Borderlands 4's release, logging in via SHiFT grants access to the exclusive skin. Newsletters may contain SHiFT codes unlocking additional rewards.

Despite recent pricing controversies, Borderlands 4 progresses toward launch with confirmed updates including post-release photo mode functionality and expanded comedic elements complementing the game's serious themes.
Borderlands 4 launches September 12, 2025 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC platforms. Stay informed about upcoming developments through our coverage!
