Rebel Wolves, a studio formed by ex-CD Projekt RED developers, recently unveiled their debut title, The Blood of Dawnwalker, in a captivating livestream. The stream showcased a four-minute cinematic trailer, serving as the game's opening cinematic and setting the stage for a dark fantasy action RPG experience.
Set in a 14th-century alternate Europe, The Blood of Dawnwalker follows Coen, a young man thrust into a supernatural struggle after the events depicted in the trailer. He must rescue his loved ones from vampires, facing a daunting 30-day deadline. While time only progresses during specific gameplay moments, careful management is crucial.
Coen’s journey presents challenging moral choices: embrace his burgeoning vampiric powers or cling to his humanity. This pivotal decision significantly impacts both gameplay and the narrative. A core mechanic, Blood Hunger, adds another layer of complexity. Coen must feed to maintain control; failure to do so risks unleashing his inner beast and potentially killing crucial characters, leading to unpredictable consequences.
Players will explore richly detailed environments, with dynamic changes influenced by the time of day. The developers describe the open world as a "narrative sandbox," offering extensive opportunities for player agency and emergent gameplay.
Developed over two years using Unreal Engine 5, The Blood of Dawnwalker is slated for release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. A release date has yet to be announced.
