Bandai Namco Shuts Down PAC-MAN Mobile Game

Bandai Namco has made the surprising announcement to shut down PAC-MAN Mobile, coinciding ironically with the legendary game's 45th anniversary celebration this year. Launched over a decade ago, this mobile version of the iconic game has been a staple for many fans.

When Is the PAC-MAN Mobile Shutdown?

The official shutdown date for PAC-MAN Mobile is set for May 30th, 2025. In-app purchases were discontinued as of April 1st, but players can continue to enjoy the game until the final day. Many in the community have expressed their disappointment with the complete shutdown, suggesting that an offline version could have been a more favorable option for both players and Bandai Namco.

This iteration of PAC-MAN, formerly known as PAC-MAN + Tournaments, went beyond the classic arcade experience. It offered not only the nostalgic 8-bit arcade mode but also introduced a Story Mode with a variety of original mazes. Additionally, the game included an Adventure Mode with limited-time themed events, allowing players to earn exclusive skins. The Tournament Mode featured weekly maze challenges across three difficulty levels. Players could also customize PAC-MAN, the ghosts, and even the joystick with a range of skins.

The Reason

The decision to shut down the game may stem from ongoing issues that have accumulated over the years. Since its launch on Android, PAC-MAN Mobile experienced a decline, plagued by bugs and other problems, which likely contributed to the decision to end its service.

Reflecting on its early days, the game sparked excitement as players competed for high scores and leaderboard rankings, creating a vibrant community around the game. If you're looking to experience PAC-MAN Mobile one last time before its closure, you can still download it from the Google Play Store.
