Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8 Out Now!
Steam Player Count Goes Up After Patch 8 Release
Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3) has rolled out its eagerly awaited final patch, marking the end of its storied journey. Launched on April 15, 2025, by Larian Studios, Patch 8 is the last major update for the acclaimed RPG. Following its release, BG3 experienced a significant boost in player numbers, climbing from an average of 60,000 concurrent players to an impressive peak of over 169,000, securing a spot just outside Steam's top 10 most played games.
Larian Studios' CEO, Swen Vincke, highlighted the surge in player numbers on Twitter (X) on April 22, crediting the game's robust mod support for paving the way for their next ambitious project. It's been confirmed that Larian Studios is moving away from the Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) universe to explore new creative territories.
In light of this shift, D&D's parent companies, Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro, are set to continue the Baldur’s Gate saga without Larian Studios. They are currently engaging with other studios to potentially develop a Baldur’s Gate 4.
12 New Subclasses, Photo Mode, and More!

Patch 8, announced back in November 2024 via a Steam blog post, has been meticulously crafted to enhance the BG3 experience. This update introduces 12 new subclasses, a much-requested photo mode, cross-play capabilities, and a host of other features. The detailed patch notes, available on BG3’s official website, showcase an extensive list of bug fixes and combat balance adjustments, ensuring a polished final chapter for the game.
Larian Studios has poured their heart into perfecting BG3, and this dedication is clear in the comprehensive updates included in this final patch. While this marks the end of major updates, Larian Studios remains committed to supporting the game's vibrant modding community.
