Starting this week, Best Buy is offering a major discount on the Asus ROG Ally Z1 Extreme gaming handheld, bringing it down to just $449.99—a $200 reduction from its original price. This is the lowest price we’ve seen for a brand-new unit, even lower than some Black Friday deals. Along with the discounted price, your purchase includes several freebies: an official ROG Ally travel case, one month of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, and two months of a Crunchyroll Mega Fan subscription.
Asus ROG Ally Z1 Extreme Gaming Handheld for $449.99

The Asus ROG Ally Z1 Extreme is a high-performance Windows 11-based gaming handheld PC. As the more powerful variant of the two ROG Ally models, it features an advanced AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme CPU built on the Zen 4 architecture, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD. The device also delivers stunning visuals on its 7-inch display, which offers a sharp 1080p resolution and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate.
Unlike its primary competitor, the Steam Deck—which runs on a Linux-based OS—the ROG Ally uses Windows 11, making it compatible with virtually every major game launcher including Steam, Battle.net, Xbox Game Pass, Epic Games Store, GOG, and Ubisoft Connect. This makes it especially appealing for gamers who prefer not to be limited to Steam’s ecosystem or want broader compatibility for their existing game libraries.
In our review of the Asus ROG Ally, IGN's Robert Anderson noted: “The Asus ROG Ally truly feels like the portable Xbox Game Pass machine that many fans have been clamoring for. While a frustrating user experience, poor battery life, and a lack of Steam Deck-style touchpads do hold it back a bit, it’s undeniable how much fun this handheld is to use when it really gets ticking. With a beautiful 1080p screen that’s marvelously bright and perfect for playing on the go in any condition, alongside its powerful set of specs and a fierce price tag, it might actually be the Steam Deck competitor we’ve been anticipating.”
Please note that the handheld gaming PC market is heating up following CES 2025. New entries like the Lenovo Legion Go S have arrived, though they’re often more expensive and not necessarily better than the ROG Ally. The Legion Go S starts at $729 with a Z2 Go CPU and 32GB of RAM, but a more budget-friendly version is expected in May 2025, offering either Windows 11 or SteamOS for $599. Additionally, the Asus ROG Ally X launched in late 2024 as a significant upgrade over the Z1 model, although it comes at a $300 premium.
