TouchArcade Rating:
Mobile premium game updates usually improve optimization or compatibility. However, Capcom's recent update for Resident Evil 7 biohazard, Resident Evil 4 Remake, and Resident Evil Village on iOS and iPadOS introduces an online DRM system. This DRM verifies game and DLC ownership upon launch. Refusal results in game closure. This necessitates an internet connection every time you start the game, adding a delay and eliminating offline play, a feature previously available. This unwelcome change significantly diminishes the games' usability.
Pre-update testing confirmed offline play functionality. Post-update, the DRM prompt appears, and choosing "no" terminates the game. While some players might not be affected, the forced online DRM in already-purchased titles is concerning. Ideally, Capcom would implement a less intrusive purchase verification method, perhaps checking less frequently. This situation unfortunately impacts the recommendation of Capcom's premium mobile ports.
The games offer free trials. Download Resident Evil 7 biohazard for iOS, iPadOS, and macOS here. Find Resident Evil 4 Remake and Resident Evil Village on the App Store here and here respectively. Read my reviews here, here, and here.
