Battle of Sudoku: A Multiplayer Sudoku Showdown

Love Sudoku and crave competition? Battle of Sudoku lets you pit your skills against other players or teams. The goal remains classic Sudoku: fill a 9x9 grid with digits so each column, row, and 3x3 subgrid contains all digits from 1 to 9.

Before the puzzle begins, choose a difficulty level (1-6, 1 being easiest, 6 hardest). This sets the initial numbers, which all players must solve simultaneously. Everyone starts with the identical puzzle.

Game Modes:

The game offers two modes, selectable in the options:

• Show Opponent's Correct Numbers: Each correctly placed number is visible to all players. Only the first player to correctly place a number earns points for that number.
• Hidden Correct Numbers: Players cannot see each other's correct numbers. This allows multiple players to earn points for the same correct number.

Time-Outs:

Incorrectly placed numbers result in a time-out, preventing that player from making moves while others continue. The time-out duration is configurable (default: 30 seconds).

Scoring:

Correct numbers earn points, with higher difficulty levels awarding more points per correct number. Incorrect numbers deduct half the points earned for a correct placement.

Winning the Game:

The game ends when the puzzle is solved. The player with the most points wins. If "Show Opponent's Correct Numbers" is disabled, the game ends when one player solves the puzzle, though this doesn't grant extra points; other players can still win by making fewer mistakes.

Team vs. Individual Play:

Team mode allows two teams to compete. Players select their team (1 or 2) upon joining. A minimum of two players per team is required. Points are added to the team's total score, and notes/filled colors are shared within the team, enabling collaborative strategies.

Solving Tools:

A toolbar under the puzzle provides tools to aid in solving:

• Pen Tool: Add notes (mini-numbers) to squares. Selecting a number already present removes it.
• Fill Mode: Change the background color of squares.
